Lakewood Memory Gardens East was established in 1956 as White Chapel Memory Gardens. White Chapel was the first memory garden featuring bronze on granite flush memorials in the Chattanooga area. New ownership in the 1960’s changed the name to Lakewood Memory Gardens East. The area around and including Lakewood was picturesque farmland with the Chickamauga Creek meandering softly through its midst. The area along the creek has been turned over to the city and designated as “Green Space”
Although the city now surrounds the cemetery, it has preserved its quiet park-like atmosphere where families can visit and reflect. Deer, turkey, beavers, ducks, geese, birds of every description plus an occasional bovine can be seen on the grounds. The quiet dignity and peaceful feel of Lakewood has been an invitation for thousands of families to place their trust in us to care for their loved ones. Mayors, judges, members of the armed forces, Policemen and Women, brave Firefighters, members of the clergy and priesthood, people from every walk of life have been welcomed and sheltered within our gates.
Lakewood Memory Gardens East offers entombment and inurnment in our stately Chapel Mausoleum, interment in three lawn crypt gardens offering both side-by-side and double depth burial, bench estate garden, private estate garden as well as eight traditional gardens. We are continually making plans to beautify, improve and expand all of our services. Lakewood Memory Gardens East offers peace, comfort and a beautiful place to remember as the fast pace of every day life is left outside our gates.
