501 Prospect Street Hours of Operation Need to buy cemetery products at this location? Prospect Cemetery dates back to the late 1800s. It is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania, in the beautiful Pocono Mountain region along Interstate 80, just five miles west of the Delaware River that borders Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and about 45 miles southeast of Scranton. There were once rumors that the cemetery was the final resting place for some travelers passing through the Appalachian Trail. There are about 35 acres of land, with eight to nine that are still undeveloped. The cemetery has grown over the years, and expanded beyond what is now known as the old cemetery. Letters distinguish the different sections. The new sections include The Gardens of Devotion, Peace, Pines I and II (which are the cremation gardens), Green Lawn I and II, Mountain Gate, and Baby Land. The cemetery also has a lawn crypt section, and several private mausoleums, as well as one community chapel mausoleum, which will have a new addition in the near future. The most visited section in the cemetery is the pet section, which has also expanded tremendously. Our newest garden is the Garden of Remembrance. This garden is located on a hill with an additional monument section located at the bottom of the hill. While there are no records of famous burials at our cemetery, we feel that every person buried here is full of old- time memories and stories, which is fame in itself. Prospect Cemetery is best known for its beautiful dogwood trees that surround the cemetery, which are breathtaking during bloom season. Over the years, the cemetery has been identified by many different names, starting with Mountain View Mausoleum, because of the mausoleum, Pocono Pet Cemetery, because of the pet cemetery, and then the cemetery with the dogwood trees. Despite this fact, Prospect is well-known in the community, and provides a final resting place that is beautiful and calm. Prospect Cemetery is located 27 miles north of Bethlehem and prides itself on delivering beautiful and peaceful landscapes for families. If you are looking for a Monroe County cemetery, East Stroudsburg cemetery, Stroudsburg cemetery, Bangor cemetery, or Portland cemetery then Prospect Cemetery is a sound choice.
