In 1929, Dr Bruning started Woodlawn Memorial Park I. He sold the cemetery in 1956 to Ross Sullivan after twenty-seven years of distinguished service to the Joliet area community. In 1969, Dr. Martinucci and Victor Gallo purchased the park and 400 additional feet to the east to allow for more growth. It is our desire to maintain the integrity of service provided since 1929. The beauty of Woodlawn is unmatched by any other cemetery or memorial park in the Joliet area.

One of the focal points of the park is the swans. Many feature stories have been written in local papers about their beauty and elegance, and the peace they provide for our visitors.

Woodlawn Memorial Park II (formerly Hills of Rest) was originally a Lutheran cemetery. The park like setting is home to wild life and fauna. Deer are often sighted in the quiet morning hours.

Our continued commitment to respect the heritage of our client families and the natural beauty of our grounds provide the community with a place of respect and honor for our families to pay tribute to their loved ones.

We are pleased to offer our families a variety of choices ranging from traditional ground burial, cremation niches, mausoleum entombment, private mausoleums, and lawn crypt burial. Additionally, families have the convenience of a wide variety of personalized funeral services and products through our partnership with Woodlawn Memorial Chapel and Funeral Home.

Woodlawn Memorial Park I is located on the southwest edge of Chicago and rests peacefully on the banks of the Des Plaines River. Keep Woodlawn Memorial Park I in mind if you are looking for a Chicago cemetery, Joliet cemetery, or Will County cemetery.
